What is the Charter?
The Charter lays out the key principles and actions that employers should take if they want to take the right and smart step of committing to protect, to promote and to support mental health in their workplaces.
The Charter was developed in-line with best practices, the latest research, and international recommendations, including the WHO, World Bank Group, International Labor Organization, among others.
It recognizes that workplaces come in all shapes and sizes, with different cultures, sectors, and realities. While contexts differ, the principles and guidance of the Charter are practical and adaptable, offering a blueprint that any workplace — large or small, public or private — can implement.
At its heart, the Charter is a tool to help workplaces in Lebanon take the responsible, effective, and forward-looking step of creating environments where both people and workplaces can thrive together.
By signing, an employer makes a clear statement of intent — a promise in writing about what their workplace will work toward and what employees can expect.

1
A workplace that is filled with risk factors and lacks protective factors increases the risk of developing depression, anxiety, and other mental health conditions. In contrast, supportive workplaces improve wellbeing.

2
Poor mental health leads to absenteeism, presenteeism, turnover, and low productivity, resulting in significant economic losses. On the other hand, a mentally healthy workplace boosts productivity and ensures strong returns on investment.

3
Providing a healthy environment — physically and mentally — is both an obligation for the employer and a right for the employee, as recognized in Lebanese labor law and international conventions.

4
Workplaces that take care of their staff are more attractive to talent and better at retaining employees.

5
Mentally healthy workplaces contribute directly to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially Goal 3 (Health and Well-being), Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities)

6
Most of the commitments in the Charter are simply hallmarks of good leadership and management — fairness, respect, clear communication, recognition, and empathy.
